TESTIMONY OF HEALING - MAIYA
NEWS
Maiya Parra was born on December 7, 2009 with a severe case of pulmonary hypertension anemia and a very low blood count. She was immediately taken to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit where she was given blood and put on oxygen. The doctor told me that her case was so severe that she may not make it and, if she did, she would be brain dead from the lack of blood going to her brain while I was pregnant. The doctor also told me that in his 22 years in pediatrics he had never seen a case this bad before and there was no explanation of why it happened. She was sent to Riley Hospital 6 hours after she was born to be put on a ventilator and a cooling blanket. On December 10th, she was put on a machine called ECMO, which is total life support - it was acting as her heart and her lungs. They expected her to be on this for about a month. On December 12th, however, I went to church where we prayed for her as a church. Following the church service, I went to Riley Hospital to see her and they told me that she was doing much better and they were able to start lowering the amount of support she was receiving from the machine at 12:00 that day. I realized that it was the same time that I was praying for her at the altar! This was only 2 days after she was put on this machine that they expected for her to be on much longer.
On December 15th, she was taken off the machine completely and was transferred back to Community Hospital North on December 16th. She was having a lot of trouble drinking from a bottle because they had always fed her through a tube. On December 26th, I went to church and, again, we prayed for her as a church. That night at 8 PM she started drinking from her bottle and they took the feeding tube out the next morning. She came home that next week on December 31, 2009!
She was supposed to be on the ECMO machine for around 30 days but was only on it for 5 days! She then had trouble eating which they thought would last for about a month as well but that only lasted for 10 days! The doctor also thought that from the blood not going to her brain and from the ECMO machine that she would have some problems with her brain - she does not; she is a healthy baby. It is almost as though nothing happened at all - God healed her! God performed a miracle in her life. The doctors told me that she wouldn’t make it but she is here!
I like to call her my Miracle Baby because all of this is a miracle! The day before she was born I was at church and Bro. James Cheatham came to pray with me. He said he felt the need to pray for me. I did not know that the very next morning, at 9:26, my whole world would be turned upside down. I feel that, through Bro. Cheatham’s prayers, God gave me the strength that I needed. When the first doctor came to tell me all that was wrong, I didn’t cry at all. I looked at my mom and told her to call Kurt and call Pastor Ball so that everyone could start praying for her miracle. I knew that she would be fine because miracles happen frequently at FAC and that this would be another.
